A painting has vanished from a museum and it will take a tough guy to find it.
The museum hires Ben Shaley, a rough-and-tumble detective, to get it back. This forces him  down a deadly road with switchbacks at every turn. The museum may be high class, but Shaley’s trip starts at the bottom — and only gets bumpier from there.  

The Red Goose
, by Norbert Davis, is considered to be one of the first hard-boiled detective stories with a twist of comedy. Later this came to influence well known writers such as  Raymond Chandler.
